Is steel framing more expensive than wood?

Steel is very competitive with lumber, especially when lumber prices swing. It also reduces waste and labor time on site. Every project is different, so request a quote and Ray will give you real numbers.

Is this like the old metal stud-and-track systems?

No. FastFrame engineers custom 20-gauge steel trusses and wall panels for each project. Panels arrive pre-assembled, with door and window openings and utility holes already in place.

Can I use standard wiring and plumbing?

Yes. The studs come with pre-punched utility holes and protective grommets, so electricians and plumbers can use standard Romex wiring and plumbing.

Do I need a special contractor?

No. Installation is similar to wood framing, and sheathing, drywall, and trim attach with screws or specialty nails. If you don't have a contractor, let us know in your quote and we'll help you find one familiar with steel framing.

Can you use my own house or building plans?

Usually, yes. FastFrame's in-house designers can convert most plans to steel. Upload them in the quote form.

Are the plans engineered to meet code?

Yes. Plans are converted with local building codes built into the design software, and FastFrame packages include stamped plans.

How is the framing package delivered?

Your package is pre-assembled at the factory in Jonesborough, Tennessee, and delivered to your job site by the JD Metals fleet.

Is a steel-framed building more likely to be hit by lightning?

No. Height matters far more than material, and a properly grounded steel frame carries lightning safely to the ground.

FastFrame® builds custom trusses and wall panels from 20-gauge cold-formed steel — sheet steel shaped at room temperature into strong, light framing members. Every package is designed for your specific project.

In-house CAD designers convert your plans and check them against local building codes. Then the wall panels are built indoors at the factory in Tennessee, with door and window openings already framed and utility holes pre-punched so standard wiring and plumbing run straight through. It all arrives at your site ready for your contractor to install.
